The Oklahoma State Fair is winding down. It has been a long time since I have attended. I think I would be more apt to go if they changed the name. How can a person get excited about something that is just fair. I would be more likely to go to an event billed as grand, great, or awesome. Simply "fair" doesn't cut it for me. The phrase "great state fair" doesn't work either. That is like saying jumbo shrimp.

We are as a nation faced with some tough economic decisions. Government can't continue it's rapid growth. Generally speaking governments do not produce a marketable product and therefore must rely on taxes to fund operations and pay for employees. Private businesses sell a service or a product then reinvest that money into operational and employee expenses. These same companies also fund the government through taxes. There comes a point when it is too much of a burden to pay taxes and the incentive to operate a business is gone.
A government that is big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take away everything you have.

I saw president Obama's limo bottom out over a speed bump.
Evidently he is not following he wife's lead on proper eating habits.
Maybe he can trade in his middle name and instead of Husein go with "Tubs".

Mindless? 02/27/2011

I can't decide whether or not my father has dementia. He was so quick to answer the nurse's questions. Or I should say quick to give an answer. He never actually gave a correct reply.
The nurse asked "Do you know where you are?"
My father replied,"Well, I'm with you."
The nurse continued, "Can you tell me what year it is?"
"Why...don't you know?" was his immediate response.
I don't know what this will do to his evaluation. I know he is playing a mind game. But I also wonder about his mind

The health care issue has divided our country, but with a new congress convening I expect the controversy will be settled. I believe that insurance companies will agree to fully cover any pre-existing conditions even for a new policy holder, as long as no treatment for the patient is required. It would not surprise me if congress even passed a law with the same language.

It's that crazy time of year when we pause for a few days at Thanksgiving to remember the important things in life, such as, family, friends, and food. Then before those turkey dinners even have time to digest, we jump full throttle into Christmas mode. I thought black  Friday referred to a profitable day for retailers. In my opinion the day was named in honor of the bruises all those shoppers receive as they push, shove, and trample one another while racing for that one bargain item. I don't get caught up in the emotion. What I like to do is talk in a louder than normal voice about the secret unadvertised   special on the end cap. Of course it doesn't really exist, but it sure is fun watching those shoppers rush off for the deal of the century.

I've been concerned about the national debt. Dollars are being spent billions at a time resulting in trillion dollar debt. I guess maybe it is possible for somebody to pay off the huge bill. Lets see.... if you make 40 million a year and can apply the total amount to the national debt...then you would only have to work 250,000 years.

Writing that second book 07/06/2010

I thought writing a second book would be so much easier than the first. It's so difficult when you have to work a real job to pay the bills. It probably compares to becoming a professional basketball player. Thousands of people play basketball...but only dozens make it to the NBA. Thousands of people write ....but only dozens publish books. I guess having released one book that makes me a semi-pro

Old stuff 05/18/2010

Getting old isn't easy. The body goes through many changes. We know these things happen, but it is just difficult to accept. Our nose gets bigger, yet we lose our sense of smell. Our ears get bigger and our hearing gets worse. Our breasts sag and our hair thins. Our bellies bulge, our seats expand, and our feet go flat. And if you think
those problems are tough....you need to see what women have to suffer

Wild Oklahoma Weather 03/21/2010

Okay, so what's up with the weather anyway. On Friday it was 70 degrees and beautiful. On Saturday the high was 31 degrees and it snowed all day. What is a fellow supposed to do. I had all of these plans to work in the yard, get the lawn mower tuned up, prepare the vegetable garden and so on. Instead, I'm sitting in my kitchen contemplating the weather. The wind is howling, the snowflakes are screaming down and I'm bored.  Crazy Oklahoma weather! I guess I the sorriest for the little hibernating animals. What do they do...wake up, go to sleep, wake up, go to sleep...? Oh well, on to writing projects!
